For the fourth time in five years, Sprint Cup qualifying has been canceled at Watkins Glen International.

It began raining just as the Cup cars were about to hit the track for their first practice at noon, and although the track was nearly dry by 2:45 p.m., NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said the day’s schedule did not afford enough time.

A Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series race was scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

NASCAR denies a former official ever complained to her superiors about incidents of racial discrimination or sexual harassment in its response to her $225 million lawsuit.

NASCAR’s response was filed Friday in New York.

It claims Mauricia Grant used several stereotypes in describing herself and was repeatedly reprimanded for tardiness and other behavioral issues. The organization also claims her firing last October was legitimate and not an act of discrimination or retaliation.
