Denny Hamlin held off teammate Kyle Busch to win Friday night at Daytona International Speedway and extend Joe Gibbs Racing’s dominance in the Nationwide Series.

Hamlin had a comfortable lead over Busch as they headed toward the white flag, but rookie Colin Braun spun to bring out just the third caution of the race.

NASCAR reset the laps to create a two-lap sprint to the finish.

The week has improved considerably for Chip Ganassi Racing.

The team shut down one of its Sprint Cup teams Tuesday, knocking former open-wheel star Dario Franchitti out of NASCAR’s top series and leading to 71 layoffs, but found plenty to celebrate at Daytona International Speedway.

First, Scott Pruett came from behind to win the Grand-Am Series race Thursday night.

Mark Martin is returning to NASCAR full time, agreeing to drive for powerhouse Hendrick Motorsports in a final effort to win a championship that has eluded him for 24 years.

Martin and team owner Rick Hendrick announced the deal pairing the 48-year-old driver with one of NASCAR’s top teams, Friday at Daytona International Speedway.

Martin will race a full schedule next season, replacing Casey Mears in the No. 5 Chevrolet. Hendrick is parting ways with Mears after this season.

Martin Truex Jr., vying to get into NASCAR’s Chase for the championship, started the weekend with a significant setback.

Truex’s Chevrolet failed inspection before practice Thursday, prompting NASCAR officials to impound the car and sending Truex’s crew scrambling to get the backup ready.

“Somebody made a big mistake,” said Truex, who drives the No. 1 for Dale Earnhardt Inc. “Shouldn’t happen in this level of auto racing, but people make mistakes. We’ll go on.
